Service Description

A 4-Hour Band workshop Sunday 5th Nov 2023 13.45-17.45 St John’s Church, Redhill RH1 6QA Tutors Nikki Franklin: Piano / Vocals Steve Cooper: Bass / Guitar Mike 'Ozzy' Osborn: Drums If you want to learn to play or sing in a band you couldn’t get instruction from a more knowledgeable group of musicians. You will be guided through the fundamental building blocks of popular band repertoire, including common chord sequences and techniques for following the changes of a range of songs. Whether this is your first introduction to playing or singing with live musicians, or if you are at intermediate level and wish to extend your 'comping and improvisation skills, you will be supported in this group setting, making the workshop an interesting experience for all levels of ability. All attendees will be exploring improvisation techniques based on groove, scales, call and response with some classic riffs and licks, and for pianists, a range of left hand accompaniment patterns. Vocalists will learn the lyrics and form, bass players and drummers, you will work alongside our professionals, please bring your own instruments. We have limited places for bass & drums, please message Nikki before booking. In this session, we will be bringing back three tracks (TBC) covered in earlier sessions thorough the year, to fine tune ensemble playing and performance skills. Attendees will be invited to perform in the student concert band on Saturday 18th November. Please bring your own instruments if you have them. We will have a piano and a couple of keyboards available, but if you have your own instrument, please bring this with you. If you cannot bring an instrument, please contact me and I will arrange something for you. Vocalists, if you have a mic and amp you are welcome to bring them, but this is not a requirement. Beginners Absolutely Welcome! You will be given learning material but it might be wise to bring a pen and paper. We will take a couple of breaks during the workshop. We do not provide refreshments but there are tea and coffee making facilities at the church. After the workshop, you are invited to join us for a drink at the Plough Pub, St Johns, Earlswood You may opt to pay in instalments. Please secure your place with a deposit and contact Nikki to arrange a payment schedule.

Please note: All Cancellations will incur a transaction fee of £10 Places cancelled with over 14 days notice of the start of the course will have the balance refunded Places cancelled with over 7-14 days notice of the start of the course will receive a 50% refund Places cancelled with under 7 days notice of the start of the course will pay the course fees in full
