Songwriting Workshop 2024 A 3 day non-residential workshop Friday 16th August to Sunday 18th August 10.00 - 17.00 St John’s Church, Redhill RH1 6QA Tutors Nikki Franklin Steve Clark £185 About this event In this 3-day intensive workshop, Franklin & Clark will guide you through the building blocks of songwriting, so that you can develop your confidence and techniques to write your own music, either as a solo artist, or working in a team. Using a range of popular songs from past and present as reference material, you will develop an understanding of song forms, harmony choices and grooves which you can embed in your own compositions. What we will cover: * The creative process, approaches for writing lyrics, melodies, chords etc. * How to accompany ourselves, or to work with fellow musicians * Team up! You have the option of working with a creative partner to create a song together * Constructive feedback and support each day * ‘Tools not rules’ - encouragement to stretch beyond the familiar  * Ways to move from self-expression to effective communication Songwriting techniques & functional harmony – how to write verses/ chorus/ bridge
– songwriting exercises – develop techniques to boost your creativity
– study of common song structures & their effects
– development techniques – how to maximise the scope of your ideas
– narrative and the importance of structure in songwriting Please bring your own instruments if you have them. We will have a piano and a couple of keyboards available, but if you have your own instrument, please bring this with you. If you cannot bring an instrument, please contact Nikki and we will arrange something for you. Vocalists, if you have a mic and amp you are welcome to bring them, but this is not a requirement. You will be given learning material but we recommend that you bring a pen and paper and music manuscript. We take scheduled breaks during the workshop. We do not provide refreshments but there are tea and coffee making facilities at the venue. A full timetable will be provided to attendees. Single Days May be booked if you cannot make the full 3 days. Please contact Nikki for more information. Price per day £80 Performance Opportunity You will be invited to perform your finished songs at the Franklin Music concert on Saturday 16th November 2024, accompanied by a professional rhythm section.

Please note: All Cancellations will incur a transaction fee of £10 Places cancelled with over 14 days notice of the start of the course will have the balance refunded Places cancelled with over 7-14 days notice of the start of the course will receive a 50% refund Places cancelled with under 7 days notice of the start of the course will pay the course fees in full
