Service Description

A 4-Hour Beginner Blues workshop Sunday 24th July 14.00-18.00 St John’s Church, Redhill RH1 6QA Tutors Nikki Franklin: Piano / Vocals Steve Cooper: Bass / Guitar Mike 'Ozzy' Osborn: Drums If you want to learn to play or sing the Blues you couldn’t get instruction from a more knowledgeable group of musicians. You will be guided through the fundamental building blocks of The Blues, including common chord sequences and techniques for following the changes of a 12 bar sequence. Whether this is your first introduction to the blues and improvisation, or if you are at intermediate level and wish to extend your improvisation skills working with a rhythm section, you will be supported in this group setting, making the workshop an interesting experience for all levels of ability. We will be exploring improvisation techniques based on groove, scales, call and response with some classic riffs and licks, and for pianists, a range of left hand accompaniment patterns. Please bring your own instruments if you have them. We will have a piano and a couple of keyboards available, but if you have your own instrument, please bring this with you. If you cannot bring an instrument, please contact me and I will arrange something for you. Vocalists, if you have a mic and amp you are welcome to bring them, but this is not a requirement. Beginners Absolutely Welcome! Even if you are new to learning your instrument, you are welcome to join us - pianists can use RH only if preferred, and vocalists will do some work in unison groups for those who do not wish to sing on their own. You will be given learning material but it might be wise to bring a pen and paper. We take 3 breaks during the workshop. We do not provide refreshments but there are tea and coffee making facilities at the church. After the workshop, you are invited to join us for a drink at the Plough Pub, St Johns, Earlswood n.b. Places are limited and will be available on a first come first served basis
